The Bunifu Story
The Bunifu founder Daniel Muhwezi has established patterns of success as a social entrepreneur. Daniel founded COBURWAS International Youth Organization to Transform Africa (CIYOTA) in 2005 and Ubuntu Trust in 2011. He left his active involvement in CIYOTA so he could devote himself full time to the development of Bunifu
CIYOTA a community based an organization that has continued to transform lives of thousands of refugees in Uganda through providing access to quality education, transformative leadership and social entrepreneurship. CIYOTA’s founders have been recognized with prestigious awards, including Ashoka Fellowship in 2015, UN Youth Advisory Board in 2013, Global Citizen Award, and Echoing Green Fellowship in 2013 etc.
After over a decade with working experience of bring young people together in a refugee camp to create solutions to their own local problems, building a great social impact organization from scratch with only community members support. The starting of Bunifu in 2017 was inspired by calls of many young people becoming more passionate and more committed to changing their own communities with great ideas and startups asking for continuous guidance, mentorship and other kind of supports from Daniel on how to launch and develop their social ventures. With a first hand experience, Daniel believes in the power of young people when it comes to driving change in their communities applying the local solutions to their local problems.
